Why this issue is happening

Your product images aren't encoded in a way that Google recognizes. If you recently updated your image URL, Google will automatically continue to show your previously approved image for up to 30 days to prevent your item from being disapproved while you resolve the format issue.

How to fix the issue

Check the values you've submitted for the image link [image_link] attribute and the additional image link [additional_image_link] attribute for this product. Ensure that those values abide by the attribute minimum requirements and are encoded in an accepted format, such as:

  • JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg)
  • WebP (.webp)
  • PNG (.png)
  • GIF (.gif)
  • BMP (.bmp)
  • TIFF (.tif/.tiff)

Fix products one by one directly in Merchant Center

  1. Go to Products under “Products & store” and then select the Needs attention tab.
  2. Use the filter icon above the table to find all products affected by your issue.
  3. Select on the title of the product you want to fix, then click Edit product.
  4. Make the sure the images you submit are encoded in an accepted format.
  5. Select Save.

Fix multiple products at once

  1. Go to Products under “Products & store” and then select the Needs attention tab.
  2. Use the filter icon above the table to find all products affected by your issue.
  3. Select the download icon to download a list (.csv) of all affected products for all issues or this particular issue.
  4. Cross reference the downloaded list with your uploaded product data, and ensure that any images you've submitted are encoded in an accepted format.
  5. Reupload your corrected product data to Merchant Center using your chosen upload method.

If you need to upload a re-encoded version of your image, assign it a brand-new filename and URL. This forces Google to detect the fresh version and check it as soon as possible, usually within 30 days.

Next steps

After making the requested changes, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure the issue is no longer listed on the “Needs attention” page.

Keep in mind: While we typically recrawl new images within 3 days (72 hours), the image may remain in a pending state during processing. As a result, it can take up to 30 days for the issue to be fully resolved and disappear from the “Needs attention” page.
